Environmental Citizenship is a concept a few decades ago which had a peak of popularity when the United Nations, through UNEP launched a three-year program to strengthen the links between man and nature, considering the man as a citizen of the world. The formal definition of the program reads: "An environmental citizen should be a critical citizen, conscious understood, interest, claim and demand their environmental rights and in turn, is willing to exercise their own environmental responsibility". The program culminated in 2007 with little success, rather, went unnoticed by almost all of the world population. This article mentions the likely causes of this failure to generate new human awareness about the importance of our environmental care for the account that brings health, the economy and the inheritance.
